What to do in the last stages is very much a matter
of taste, and the state of your particular carving. The tiniest
cuts at the end are the most indescribable, and your Hitty may
already be done. On Hitty Coal I narrowed the temples and shaped
out her forehead a little more, creating smaller but well-defined
eye indentations. I deepened the curves on either side of her
upper lip, and I deepened and softened the corners of her mouth.
I continued to shave tiny bits from her cheeks, chin, and jaw
until her face was balanced and was shaped just right, and her
expression was pleasant. In general, I did fine finishing work
on her lips, chin, nose, cheeks, and hair and jaw line. I have
included many views of the completed carving, to try to show what
I can't describe.
