Step 3:

Score the nostrils and lipline, and cut a little dip to start the curve above the chin. The nostrils and corners of mouth should be cut deeper than the center of the lipline, but these cuts are NOT intended to go as deep as eventually they will. You would not have enough control if you tried to cut the full depth of the lipline or nostrils at this stage. The scores are done to mark the placement of the nostrils and lipline, and to serve as stop-cuts. They will be deepened and refined as you go along.

Bearing in mind the angles and shapes of the lips, marking where necessary, begin cutting away on either side of the nose/lip/chin mound. With Hitty's child-like profile, her nose, lips, and chin all thrust out to basically the same extent, as opposed to a more adult profile where the nose would be more prominent, so it is very helpful to leave the nose/lip/chin sections connected down the center of the face as you are carving back the cheeks on either side.

Pay strict attention to the angles of your cuts, compared to the shape of real people's lips.
