Make an Inexpensive Travel Bag

by Charlotte Hitty

Traveling is fun, but it can be dangerous to fragile Hittys! No one wants a scratched hair-do or a chipped foot, especially when traveling to someplace where you will be seen. The optimum travel accomodations would be a small suitcase, lidded basket, or hard-shelled container. However, if there isn't enough time to acquire or puchase one of these objects, and not enough time to make one, you can use a simple Travel Bag.

Supplies:
10" x 8" scrap of beautiful fabric (think fleece, satin, velvet, or just 100% cotton fabric)
10" x 8" scrap of polar fleece or flannel (or other soft material)
Cording or Ribbon for the drawstring

Step One: Place the Fleece and the Fabric right sides together, and sew across the top.

Step Two: Press seam to the lining side.

Step Three: Open at the sewn seam, and fold over so the wrong sides are facing each other. Press, then sew two seams across as shown, to form a casing for the drawstring.

Step Fourr: Open back up long, fold in half lengthwise with the right sides facing each other, as shown, then stitch as shown, both ends, and up the open side, leaving a space between dots to turn.

Step Five: Turn right side out and stitch the opening shut.

Step Six: Insert the drawstring with a darning needle.

All done!
