From the desk of Charlotte Hitty...

Welcome to the premiere issue of The Practical Hitty Newsletter. Hitty Henrietta and I have long wanted to put out a publication that would combine the best of both worlds--lots of presents for your special girls, and a practical way to do so without emptying your bank account. After all, every Hitty deserves to be spoiled as much as we have been!

Seriously, we know that a small budget can take some of the enjoyment out of playing with Hitty. Not everybody can afford to surf e-Bay or shop at Miniature Stores. In up-coming issues of The Practical Hitty we'll be presenting low-budget, fun projects and ideas to help you spoil your Hitty girls, decorate their homes (maybe even make their homes!), and fill out their wardrobes. Many of our projects will include 'found' bits and pieces, things you probably have right on hand, and low-cost items . (Our favorite store is the Dollar General.)

School here at the Ash Grove Academy for young Ladies and Gentlemen is in session, and Hitty June's English Upper Grade Girls have taken a field trip. Their report in this issue will include 'found' nature items for Hitty such as tiny acorns and miniature pine cones. This report will get your Hitty girls accustomed to 'finding' rather than 'buying'. Always a good idea!

And if your Hittys are crafty, they will really enjoy one of our projects for this issue--Decorated Trunks! The best part of this craft is, it will take advantage of items you probably already have, and the actual trunk itself can be purchased for a very low sum--often under a dollar. (We'll tell you where!)

So what are you waiting for? Dive right in to The Practical Hitty!

Enjoy--Charlotte Hitty, Editor

From the desk of Hitty Henrietta…

You know, as Hittys go, we're not demanding.

Well, there's the cabin, but we had to have a place to live, didn't we? The yards of fabric? Every Hitty NEEDS a wardrobe! Boxes, baskets, trunks? Well where else would we keep our clothes? Kittens, you say? I needed some company until my companions arrived! Of course I would have been terribly lonely without Hitty Desiree and Muriel China...and Mrs. Plum and Marcella Ackley...and Hittys Georgiana and Calliope... And, (oh dear) Where were we all to live? We needed that bigger house! Then of course there are the little girls. How would they get excercise and fresh air without their ponies?

Ok, maybe we're a teensy bit demanding! But we're also a patient and a pitching-in kind of bunch, which is why Charlotte and I have begun this newsletter. We're always ready to help our people to make us furniture, clothing, and accessories, or to come up with crafty ideas.

We have a fine appreciation for practicality because, after all, like so many other Hittys, if our people could have afforded to adopt an artist Hitty they would never have started carving and we wouldn't exist!

With that in mind, we plan on having an Artist interview in each issue of The Practical Hitty Newsletter with an artist who has been successful in creating a Hitty in a non-traditional medium, such as clay, fabric, china. In addition, we will share ideas, suggestions and tips on how to indulge your Hitty friends without going broke.

Don't you think that there is always a special sense of accomplishment and satisfaction that comes from creating something of your own? Buying is fun, but making is fun plus!

Come again! Hitty Henrietta, Co-Editor
